Theme: Best Friends

At 6 a.m. on August 17, I laced up my sneakers and went for a run. The morning breeze chilled my windpipes and teased my hair. The sunset broke over the lake like an egg yolk, spilling gold across every grain of sand and blade of grass. I ran with a spirit of gratitude: it was the morning of my all-day bachelorette party, and God graced the day with spotless skies.
When I returned home, I found Mitra and Christina – two of my bridesmaids – curled up on couches. I showered and dressed in the gown, veil, and sash that Mitra designed for this occasion.
Several months prior to August 16, I asked Mitra plan the bachelorette party. I gave her full license over the event, save for one instruction: keep it clean. In other words: no penis paraphernalia, no strippers, no excessive drinking, and generally, no raunchiness.
I know, I know – if I had a spirit animal, it would be a grandma. But if there’s one thing I love more than butterscotch candies, it’s enjoying great food and meaningful conversation with a few close friends.
Mitra honored my request, and so much more. Working with bridesmaid Annie, she planned an event called Jillapalooza. The all-day extravaganza began with a Swedish brunch, followed by manicures, cupcakes, a visit to the Lincoln Park Zoo, and more… I’ll save that for tomorrow.
This week is all about best friends – specifically, Ann, Mitra, Annie, and Christina (my four bridesmaids). These are incredible women, and I’m excited to dedicate one day to each of them!
