One bite-sized story every morning to uplift, motivate, or provoke thought.

wise words (sunday setup 1/6/13)

< by Jill >

Nate just dropped me off at my apartment, and I’m eyeing the clock to see if I can fit in a blog post. It’s been a hurried few days. On Saturday, we made a one-day sojourn to Minnesota, which ended at 5:30 a.m. this morning when we loaded up our bags and headed back to the big city.

The trip came with a few worries — Would we get stuck in traffic? Would we arrive in time for dinner? Would there be enough time to see everyone, catch up, and sit down for one deep breath?

Oof, I’m tired. But it was a great trip. And in the end, there was no need to worry at all. Traffic flowed fluidly, we pulled up just in time for dinner, and there was enough time to socialize, relax, AND go shopping with mom. Nothing beats Target with momma.

Speaking of my mom, she’s coached me through most of life’s ups and downs with one reminder: Most of the things you worry about end up just fine.

Sometimes she takes it a step farther and adds a percent — 90% of the things you worry about end up just fine. She’s absolutely right. There are times when worries merit their emotional energy, but most of the time, it all smooths out. It reminds me of a favorite Bible verse: Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? (Matthew 6:27, NIV)

This week’s posts focus on wise words: who says them, what they mean, and how they add clarity and joy to all situations.

P.S. I was able to squeeze this post into 14 minutes! I didn’t need to worry after all! 🙂
