One bite-sized story every morning to uplift, motivate, or provoke thought.

the bold and the secretive

< by Jill >

The Klosterman family has a juicy secret, and it’s time for the truth to come out.

But before I tell all, I must absolve my father. As a man of excellent character and fine taste, he has never dabbled in the sordid world of daytime television. He is an example to us all.

If you call our house at 12:30 p.m. on a weekday, you’ll hear four rings and then a beep: You’ve reached the Klostermans. Please leave a message.

If, alternatively, you sneak up to the windows and peer into the living room at 12:30 p.m. on a weekday, you might find three women — my mom, me, and my sister Ann — sitting on a couch with arms flailing to the rhythm of “High Upon this Love,” the theme song to the daytime drama The Bold and The Beautiful.

We actually have a name for the arm-flailing. It’s called “Fleurishing” — a portmanteau of the French word for “flower” and the English word “flourishing.” Yes, as the saxophones trill, we blossom and thrive.

I refuse to live in shame any longer. I love B&B, and here’s why: It never changes.

Yesterday, my mom wrote about the bicycle accident that changed our family forever. She forgot to mention one thing: Amidst seven years of dramatic changes and challenges, we always had B&B.

B&B has been there for us, on time, every day (except when there’s stupid Wimbledon). We’ve watched Taylor die and return from the dead two times, we’ve seen Brooke and Ridge get married at least five times (including today), and we’ve watched as the same old plotlines find a new iteration with different actors.

So the secret’s out: We love B&B.
Still, I’d argue that you’re the crazy one (we can see you through the windows).

Love this confession, Jill. Everyone has their guilty pleasure TV shows. Mine are “The Bachelor” and “Pretty Little Liars.” I think when I found out that you watch “Bold and the Beautiful”, it made me like you even more! 🙂

Haha thanks Jorie! I know there are a lot of closet fans out there. The Bachelor is particularly addictive!
